It was actually a church and was constructed between 532 to 537 AD during the Byzantine empire and was the largest Cathedral in the world for nearly a thousand years. It was then converted into a mosque by the Ottoman empire at 1453. It was the 1st church that has been converted into a mosque and later in year 1935 it was converted into a museum.

I had this eerie feeling when I entered Hagia Sophia because the bulding is very ancient! It has nice architecture too. I was in awe seeing the architectures, relics n imagine how was it like living in a few decades ago. I also wonder how they do the carving without the modern equipments. WOW! But I realize most of the paintings are almost the same with what I saw in Milan and Venice....I think maybe because it was made in the same era.

Hi Azma...lagi jauh journey, lagi tgk mcm2 jenis org...Yg kat burger king tu yeke....maybe sebab dia musafir kot, takut jugak nak bersangka buruk. Tapi selamba je mkn terbuka camtu eh? Kat UAE ni if bulan puasa mmg takde kedai foods bukak until Iftar....sampaikan the expat yg non-muslim complain susah nak cari foods bulan Ramadhan! Actually depends kot, maybe sbb Turkey is a secular country, so they tak strict mcm other Muslim country. But actually it depends on ajaran agama masing2...yg kat Muslim country tak act mcm Muslim pun ramai jgk sebenarnya kan... Thanks for the wish Azma. Sat 7-Feb-2009 07:41
